Metamorfos; Den mänskliga kroppen i transformation / Metamorphosis; The Human Body in Transformation

Moreno, Alexandra January 2023 (has links)
Based on what body adornment has been throughout history, this project investigates what it might be in the future. The possibilities, forms and methods of body adornment has changed and will continue to change over time, along with our societal and environmental shifts as well as with developments in science and technology. Our bodies are increasingly perceived as malleable objects that we can modify, enhance and improve. I use speculation as a method to explore how the human body may develop and be modified in the future. I envision a world where we have become increasingly intertwined with technologies, where environmental changes and our lifestyle have affected our biology, and where our bodies have continued to be altered based on social norms. Through this project I have become some kind of contemporary Frankenstein scientist, although I am not in a laboratory but in a jewellery workshop. My objects, which I call potential jewellery, or maybe-jewellery, are presented in an installation in the form of a clinical setting. It is a representation of where body adornment meets medical technology, where jewellery meets prostheses and implants. This project does not have any answers or a clear message about what is right or wrong – it is based on a curiosity without having a conclusion in mind. The installation is meant to be a reminder that our bodies are always adorned, modified and in transformation – that we are in an ongoing metamorphosis from one state to another.

Funkquist, John January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to explore how theoretical studies on handicrafts may be rewarding and usefull for a craftsman. The aim is also to explore how quality is defined within crafts and to explore different aesthetic qualities that can be achieved within the craft of cabinetmaking. In addition, the aim is also to broaden the view on how skillfullnes may be expressed within the craft of cabinetmaking. The work begins with theoretical studies of two craft philosophers - David Pye and Soetsu Yanagi. Then, their ideas are applied practically through the making of two pieces of furniture. Aesthetic expressions characterized by randomness, imperfection and irregularity is specially sought after. The conclusions of the thesis shows that theoretical studies may be benefiting and rewarding for a craftsman.

I like it dirty

Pontén, Stina January 2018 (has links)
Using dirt and cleaning as a point of departure, I have examined how categorization and intentionality affects our perception of value. The work is partly performative in its nature where this performativity sets the limelight on the transition between categories: From dirt to craft, from irrational behaviour to art. In the artistic process, I have used coffee rings on table cloths, shoeprints on wallpapers and  the act of mopping as a means of questioning. Through this, I also reveal and question hierarchies in society. The essay discusses and theoretically relates to the artistic work.

Thinking Inside The Box

Bakken, Maja January 2020 (has links)
I am part of and dependent on a bigger unit – humanity. I am one of the small parts that build up this organism. Being human is an identity that I cannot choose, sometimes it is heavy to carry this role but it is also a support – and necessary for my survival. – My text describes some of the experiments I have performed, a few pages from my journal and some thoughts on which I base my making. My method has been an ethnographic exploration with myself and some objects I created as tools for researching my own body in relation to public spaces, using similar methods as Gösta Arvastson and Billy Ehn describe in their book Etnografiska Observationer (Arvastson & Ehn 2009).  I noticed unconscious synchronised patterns of movement performed by people inhabiting public spaces. After some experiments I realized that I feel insecure when I break those patterns. It became clear to me that my body is programmed to, and does its best, to fit into certain norms. However, sometimes I am incapable or don´t want to conform.

A story about humans relationship to water, embodied through crafts.

Wikström, Anna-Kajsa January 2020 (has links)

Rite of Passage

Rönnholm, Kajsa January 2023 (has links)
Within this text, I will discuss my process of making sculptures through my examining MA soloshow. It is a deeply personal reflection of my ideas and where they originate from, symbolsand what they speak of, materials and techniques they require. The theme of my sculptures ischildhood and memories, what I lost when growing up, and who I became. There is also astrong theme of craftsmanship in my work and, in this text, an exploration of materials andthe knowledge of my working hands. In this essay, I present four sculptures within thechapters THE BRAID, THE ROPE, THE MITTEN, and THE WELL. It aims to give the reader aninsight into my artistic process when creating my MA exam work.
