[pt] O presente estudo tem como objetivo a análise discursiva de narrativas geradas na interação entre mulheres migrantes e a obra literária A hora da estrela, de Clarice Lispector, que possui como temática central a migração. O ambiente de geração dos dados, assim, é contextualizado pela literatura, que é pano de fundo para as interações; e pela temática da migração, que tangencia as histórias de vida dessas mulheres – Cássia, Taís, eu mesma e Macabéa – protagonista da obra literária escolhida. O foco da pesquisa está voltado para o acontece na interação entre as participantes e para a (re)elaboração de experiências nas narrativas, quando temas ligados à construção de identidades, estigmas e instituições emergiram de forma recorrente. Sendo assim, de forma mais específica, os objetivos são: (i) analisar o discurso narrativo das participantes no que diz respeito às suas experiências migratórias; (ii) analisar como as participantes avaliam suas experiências vividas a partir da interação com a obra literária e (iii) analisar que identidades, estigmas e instituições emergem nessa prática discursiva avaliativa que as participantes elaboram acerca de seu processo migratório. Esta pesquisa insere-se no âmbito da Linguística Aplicada (MOITA LOPES, 2006; 2013) e propõe uma investigação de cunho interdisciplinar entre os Estudos da Linguagem e a Literatura. Para fundamentar as análises, o arcabouço teórico-metodológico dialoga com teorias de linguagem de base social, a saber as áreas de análise de narrativa e os estudos de identidade (BASTOS, 2008); da sociolinguística interacional, a partir de alguns conceitos cunhados por Goffman (1961; 1963; 1979); e da Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional (HALLIDAY, 1994; GOUVEIA, 2009; NÓBREGA, 2009), especialmente, o Sistema de Avaliatividade (MARTIN; WHITE, 2005). No âmbito dos Estudos Literários, recorro à estética da recepção à teoria do efeito estético, principalmente aos postulados de Jaus (1994 (1969)) e de Iser (1996 (1976)), que se preocupam com a relação entre texto e leitor. Dessa forma, o alinhamento metodológico se dá com a pesquisa qualitativa (DENZIN; LINCOLN, 2006), por ser uma investigação situada em teorias de bases sociais. A pesquisa também possui um cunho autoetnográfico (ELLIS, ADAMS; BOCHNER, 2010), visto que se desenvolve em um contexto familiar, em que uma das participantes possui uma relação direta de parentesco com a pesquisadora. Os resultados das análises sugerem que as interlocutoras, por meio de suas histórias de vida, (re)constroem identidades e afetos pela diferenciação de Macabéa, personagem da obra literária. Os momentos avaliativos se mostram fundamentais para (re)construção das narrativas, que dialogam com o contexto de leitura da obra de Clarice. Sendo assim, Cássia e Taís (co)constroem e (re)constroem identidades para migrante nordestina, recontextualizando uma mulher crédula e ingênua na figura de uma mulher batalhadora, estudiosa, que busca e conquista sua ascensão social apesar dos estigmas sofridos e das vivências de abuso nas chamadas casas de famílias, entendidas como instituições totais. Esta tese pode contribuir de forma original para a área de Linguística Aplicada, que incentiva pesquisas de caráter inter/transdisciplinar. Além disso, mostra-se um ato de (re)existência – e de resistência – de tantas histórias de mulheres nordestinas e migrantes. / [en] The present study aims at analyzing narratives generated in the interaction between migrant women and the literary work The hour of the star, by Clarice Lispector, whose main theme is migration. Thus, the environment of data generation is contextualized by the literature, which is the background for interactions; and by migration, topic that touches the life stories of these women – Cassia, Taís, myself and Macabéa – protagonist of the chosen literary work. The focus of the research is on what happens in the interaction between the participants and the (re)elaboration of narrative experiences, when themes related to the construction of identities, stigmas and institutions emerged in a recurrent way. Hence the objectives are: (i) to analyze the narrative discourse of the participants regarding their migratory experiences; (ii) to investigate how the participants evaluate their lived experiences in the interaction with the literary work and (iii) to observe which identities, stigmas and institutions emerge in this evaluative discursive practice that the participants made about their migratory process. This research is developed within the scope of Applied Linguistics (MOITA LOPES, 2006; 2013) and proposes an interdisciplinary investigation between Language Studies and Literature. To support the analysis, the theoretical-methodological framework dialogues with socially based language theories, namely the areas of Narrative Analysis and Identity Studies (BASTOS, 2008); of Sociointeractional Perspective of Discourse, based on some concepts from Goffman (1961; 1963; 1979); and of SFL (HALLIDAY, 1994; GOUVEIA, 2009; NÓBREGA, 2009), especially the Appraisal Theory (MARTIN; WHITE, 2005). In the context of Literary Studies, I refer to the Aesthetic of Reception and the Theory of Aesthetic Effect, especially to the postulates of Jauss ((1969) 1994) and Iser ((1976) 1996), that concern with the relationship between text and reader. The methodological framework aligns with qualitative research (DENZIN; LINCOLN, 2006), as it is an investigation situated on socially based theories. The research also has an auto-ethnographic aspect (ELLIS, ADAMS; BOCHNER, 2010), since it is carried out in a familiar context, in which one of the participants has a direct relationship with the researcher. Results suggest that interlocutors, through their life stories, (re)construct identities and emotions through the differentiation of Macabéa, character of the literary work. The evaluative moments are fundamental for the (re)construction of narratives, which dialogues with the reading context of Clarice s work. Cassia and Taís (co)construct and (re)construct identities for the migrant from northeastern of Brazil, recontextualizing a gullible and naive woman in the figure of a struggling, studious woman who seeks and conquers her social ascension despite the stigmas suffered and experiences of abuse in the so-called family homes, understood here as total institutions. This thesis may contribute in an original way to the area of Applied Linguistics, encouraging inter and transdisciplinary research. Moreover, it is shown an act of (re)existence – and resistance – of so many stories of migrant women from northeastern of Brazil.

The goal of this study is to evaluate, in which manner the Non-Israelites turn to Yahweh. It works with a combination of narrative analysis and intertextuality. The book of Jonah contains two symmetrical parts (1-2 and 3-4), each part containing three scenes, each scene relating to a scene in the other part: 1.1-3 // 3.1-3a; 1.4-16 // 3.3b-10; 2.1-11 // 4.1-11. The structure of 1.4-16, including the inner development of the mariners, shows that a conversion of the Seamen to Yahweh is intended. In the same manner the structure of 3.3b-10 and the positive characterization of the Ninevites show that a conversion to the one true God is intended. These results are each confirmed by an intertextual analysis of 1.14 and 16 and of the faith, the repentance and the God who relents. Result: The book of Jonah teaches that Non-Israelites can have a relationship with Yahweh. Reordering of Meaningful Worlds : Memory of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army in Post-Soviet Ukraine

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukrainian society faced a new reality. The new reality involved consolidation and transformation of collective identities. The reinvigoration of national identity led to a change in the emphasis on how the past was dealt with – many things which were regarded as negative by the Soviet regime became presented as positive in independent Ukraine. The war-time nationalist movement, represented by the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), became one of the re-configured themes of history. While most of the studies of memory of the OUN and UPA concentrated on the use of the history of the OUN and UPA by nationalist parties, this study goes beyond the analysis of such use of history and scrutinizes the meaning of this history in nation- and state-building processes in relation to memory work realized on the small-scale regional and local levels with the main focus on Rivne and Rivne oblast’. Moreover, this book focusses not only on the “producers” of memory, but also on the “consumers” of memory, the area which is largely understudied in the field of memory studies. In the book the main emphasis is put on monuments which are regarded as catalysts and symptoms of memory. The present study showed that the OUN and UPA are used more as the metaphors of the anti-Soviet and anti-communist struggle for independence than as historical entities. This past is largely mythologized. Functioning as a myth the memory of the OUN and UPA obliterates difficult knowledge that the historical research reveals on the questionable activities and ideology of those organizations. As a result, the past of the OUN and UPA is re-imagined, re-filled with new meanings so that it is used along even with the democratic and pro-European claims in the present. It was especially well-observed during the Orange Revolution in 2004 and during the Euromaidan in 2013-2014, when the European Union’s flags were seen next to the OUN’s red-and-black flags or when the pro-European slogans were proclaimed alongside the OUN and UPA slogans. At the same time, the results demonstrated an intricate complexity of memory work shaped by intensive dynamics of private and public, grassroots and official, local and national encounters. Although there have been attempts made by political actors to draw a direct link between the national identity, political allegiances and proposed heroic version of memory, the study showed, that such attempts did not really work. In the pluralistic context the meanings are too fluid and adherence to one version of history does not preclude adherences to other versions of history which are presented as diametrically opposite in the political sphere. As result, on the recipients’ grassroots level, the memory reveals its amalgamated characteristics. Drawing on studies about post-colonial subjectivities and theories of remediation developed in memory studies, this book explores the changes in memory culture of contemporary Ukraine and examines the role of memory in producing new meanings under the rapidly changing conditions after the collapse of the Soviet Union up to 2014. The book contributes to the studies of memory culture in post-Communist countries as well as to the studies of society in contemporary Ukraine.

Genesis ist ein Buch von Familiengeschichten, welche durchgehend von Konflikten geprägt sind. Insbesondere gilt dies für Rivalitäten zwischen Brüdern. Häufige Vertauschungsepisoden und weitere Katalysatoren entfachen Konflikte, die die familiäre Kontinuität stets gefährden. Die Geschwisterriva-litäten wurden in der Forschung ausgiebig behandelt, doch die Analyse verbindender und wiederkeh-render literarischer Motive zwischen den Erzählungen wurde bisher nicht ausreichend erforscht. Daher untersucht die vorliegende Studie drei Hauptrivalitäten zwischen Brüdern in ihren literarischen Verbindungen: Kain und Abel, Jakob und Esau sowie Josef und seine Brüdern. Dabei werden beson-ders die Abschnitte analysiert, die den Ausgangspunkt, die Eskalation und die Auflösung dieser Kon-flikte behandeln. Als Ergebnis der Studie werden lexikalische und thematische Motive, sowie Motive im Handlungsverlauf zwischen den Erzählungen erarbeitet. Die beschriebenen Motive stellen ein dicht verwobenes literarisches Netzwerk zwischen den Erzählungen dar. Sie zeigen einen narrativen Span-nungsbogen auf, der vom urgeschichtlichen Brudermord zur Bruder-Vergebung geht und sich im Verlauf stets am Rande eines Brudermords bewegt Genesis is a book of family histories which are marked throughout by conflict. Therefore, the present study investigates the literary connections among three principal rivalries: Cain and Abel, Jacob and Esau and Joseph and his brothers. This includes, in particular, the analysis of those texts which deal with the origin, escalation and resolution of these conflicts. As a result of this study, lexical and thematic motifs, as well as motifs of plot development among the stories are worked out. These motifs present a tightly interwoven narrative network among the stories. They reveal a narrative arc of suspense which ranges from the primeval fratricide to fraternal forgiveness, teetering continually on the brink of fratricide / Genesis is a book of family histories which are marked throughout by conflict. This thesis explores how current ways of imagining possibilities for intersexed and trans embodied lives within medical contexts might be informed by and reimagined through the historical lived experiences of intersexed and trans individuals as they have been articulated in autobiographical accounts. Postmodern, queer, intersex, and trans researchers and activists have criticised existing standards of intersex and trans healthcare for limiting the possibilities for diverse embodied lives by articulating certain forms of embodiment and selfhood as more likely to enable a liveable life than others. This has often been done in a medico-legal context by referring to experiences in the past of the unliveability of corporealities and gendersexed situations that differ from privileged positions. With a point of departure in these critiques, this thesis reopens questions about how intersexed and trans people may be embodied and have relations with others by reflecting upon the period of the first three-quarters of the 20th century, when the present standards of care and diagnostic categories were emerging, but had not yet become established. Drawing upon a unique set of historical source material from the archives of the Danish Ministry of Justice and the Medico-Legal Council, intersexed and trans persons’ life stories are rearticulated from their own and medico-legal experts’ accounts written in relation to applications for change of legal gendersex status and medical transition. In this way, the process is traced through which these life stories have been repeatedly rearticulated in order to become a usable basis for diagnosis and decision-making. At the same time, the stories are unfolded once more in a rearticulation focusing on their complexity and diversity. / Denna avhandling undersöker hur nuvarande sätt att föreställa sig möjligheter för intersexuella och transpersoners liv inom medicinska sammanhang kan informeras av och omföreställas genom historiska livserfarenheter hos intersexuella och transindivider, som de har artikulerats i självbiografiska berättelser. Postmoderna, queer, intersex- och transforskare och aktivister har kritiserat existerande normer för intersex- och transhälsovård för att begränsa möjligheterna för olika förkroppsligande liv genom att artikulera vissa former av förkroppsligande och subjektivitet som mer sannolikt att möjliggöra ett levbart liv än andra. Detta har ofta gjorts i ett medicinskt-juridiskt sammanhang genom att hänvisa till förflutna erfarenheter av levbarhet kring förkroppsligande och genusifierande situationer som skiljer sig från privilegierade positioner. Med utgångspunkt i denna kritik, återupptar denna avhandling frågor om hur intersexuella och transpersoner kan bli förkroppsligade och ha relationer till andra, genom att reflektera kring de första tre fjärdedelarna av nittonhundratalet när de nuvarande normerna för vård och diagnostiska kategorier uppstod, men ännu inte blivit etablerade. Med utgångspunkt i en unik uppsättning av historiskt källmaterial från Danska  Justitiedepartementet och Medicinsk-Etiska Rådets arkiv, återges intersexuella och transpersoners livshistorier från egna och medicinsk-etiska experters berättelser skrivna i relation till ansökningar av förändring av juridiskt kön och medicinsk transition. Genom denna process har livshistorier upprepande gånger blivit omartikulerade för att bli en användbar grund för diagnos och beslutsfattande. Samtidigt är dessa livshistorier uppöppnade än en gång i en omartikulation med fokus på deras komplexitet och mångfald.

Embracing LOLitics: Popular Culture, Online Political Humor, and Play

The Internet, and Web 2.0 tools can empower audiences to actively participate in media creation. This allows the production of large quantities of content, both amateur and professional. Online memes, which are extensions of usually citizen-created viral content, are a recent and popular example of this. This thesis examines the participation of ordinary individuals in political culture online through humor creation. It focuses on citizen-made political humor memes as an example of engaged citizen discourse. The memes comprise of photographs of political figures altered either by captions or image editing software, and can be compared to more traditional mediums such as political cartoons, and 'green screens' used in filmmaking. Popular culture is often used as a 'common language' to communicate meanings in these texts. This thesis thus examines the relationship between political and popular culture. It also discusses the value of 'affinity spaces', which actively encourage users to participate in creating and sharing the humorous political texts. Some examples of the political humor memes include: the subversion of Vladimir Putin's power by poking fun at his masculine characteristics through acts similar to fanfiction, celebrating Barack Obama’s love of Star Wars, comparing a candid photograph of John McCain to fictional nonhuman creatures such as zombies using photomanipulation, and the wide variety of immediate responses to Osama bin Laden's death. This thesis argues that much of the idiosyncratic nature of the political humor memes comes from a motivation that lies in non-serious play, though they can potentially offer legitimate political criticism through the myths 'poached' from popular culture.

Wäh-rend eines Trinkgelages erscheint eine Hand, die eine Botschaft an die Wand schreibt. König Belsazar ragiert mit Entsetzen auf die Schrift. Hierbei werden fünf körperliche Reaktionen beschrieben, die als „Akute Belastungsreaktionen“ identifi-ziert werden. Es stellt sich die Frage, weshalb die „Akuten Belastungsreaktionen“ so deutlich vom Erzähler berichtet werden. Anhand der Literaturwissenschaftlichen Bibelauslegung wird dargestellt, dass die fünf „Akuten Belastungsreaktionen“ von Belsazar Teil eines rhetorischen Stilmittel sind, das den König denunziert. Mit Überprüfung des Danielbuches wird dargelegt, dass die Reaktionen von Belsazar in dieser komprimierten Form besonders sind. Sie stehen jedoch im Kontext der vie-len „Akuten Belastungsreaktionen“ des gesamten Buches. Eine umfangreiche Über-prüfung des gesamten alttestamentlichen Kanons zeigt, dass viele Bücher von „Akuten Belastungsreaktionen“ berichten, jedoch nicht in der Anzahl wie beim Da-nielbuch. Zudem kann dargelegt werden, dass die „Akuten Belastungsreaktionen“ kulturell anerkannt waren, jedoch auch polemisch verwendet wurden. Es wurde festgestellt, dass die Verwendung von „Akuten Belastungsreaktionen“ in alttestamentlichen Texten variable Funktionen haben, die auf die Intention des Er-zählers zurückzuführen sind. Hierbei werden die Protagonisten charakterisiert und die Sympathie des Lesers gelenkt. / This dissertation explores the narrative concerning King Belshazzar in Daniel 5. Dur-ing a banquet, a hand appears and writes a message on the wall. King Belshazzar’s reaction is one of horror. In the narrative we can find five physical reactions which can be identified as “acute stress reactions”. The question of this dissertation is, why does the author describe these “acute stress reactions” in such an explicit way? Using the methodology of new literary criticism, it is shown that the five “acute stress reactions” of Belshazzar are a part of a rhetorical stylistic device to denunciate the King. A broader look at the Book of Daniel shows that although the compressed nature of Belshazzar’s reaction is quite unique, it exists within a wider context which contains many similar “acute stress reactions”. A comprehensive examination of the whole Old Testament canon shows that many books contain descriptions of “acute stress reac-tions”, but none are comparable to the Book of Daniel. It can also be shown that the “acute stress reactions” as such were culturally acceptable but can be used by the author to create a polemic effect. This dissertation shows that the use of “acute stress reactions” could be employed for various functions according to the intentions of the Old Testament authors. Sie geht methodisch mit einer Kombination aus Erzähltextanalyse und Intertextualität vor. Das Jonabuch besteht aus zwei symmetrischen Hälften (Jon 1-2 und 3-4) mit je 3 Szenen, die einander gegenüberstehen: 1,1-3 // 3,1-3a; 1,4-16 // 3,3b-10; 2,1-11 // 4,1-11. Die Struktur der Seeszene (Jon 1,4-16), sowie die innere Entwicklung der Seeleute zeigen, dass eine Bekehrung zu Jahwe intendiert ist.
