ERIKA LAURSEN DE SOUZA 27 June 2023 (has links)
[en] Reacting to the problems caused by the growth of world urbanization, the urban agriculture movement has been expanding and consolidating as a green infrastructure able to generate new alternatives for the urban environment and food security, regardless of climate or city location – North or Global South. Mostly implemented in residual spaces, community urban gardens promote dynamism in space production and socioenvironmental impact that can also contribute to urban sustainability and resilience. The object of study of this dissertation is the communal urban agriculture program of the city of Rio de Janeiro – Hortas Cariocas, which since 2006 produces organic food in slums, schools and urban voids. This research aimed to cross the theoretical framework with data from the program, visits, interviews and application of questionnaires to analyze Hortas Cariocas and verify its contributions to the city and 2030 Agenda as a sustainable development vector in the urban context.

Analyse von Sustainable Development Goals: Betrachtung der Indikatoren zur nachhaltigen Entwicklung

Tippmann, Marvin 19 June 2023 (has links)
In 2015, the Agenda 2030 was adopted, which comprises a total of 17 goals in the form of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs represent human as well as planetary and political intentions in the field of sustainability, in which 169 countries are involved. The aim of this work is to examine the comparability and availability of indicators from the Sustainable Development Goals. For the implementation, the countries Germany, Brazil and Norway were examined more closely with regard to their measurement data. In this context, a listing of the respective progress of the individual SDGs has been made as part of the comparison. In addition, the indicators are analyzed in terms of their measurability and reliability on the basis of national reports. Evidently, a comparison of the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals is not clearly possible.

Meijer, Emelie, Rossbrei, Anna January 2023 (has links)
Background: Equality is defined as “…women and men have the same rights, obligations and opportunities” (Jämställdhetsmyndigheten 2022). A first equality law was adopted in Sweden in the year 1979 as a first step to encourage women's rights. Moreover, additional laws and initiatives have been added to continue to drive gender equality work in the right direction, including the law against any discrimination and 2030 Agenda. In today's legislation, there are no clear guidelines regarding what companies must report on in their sustainability report. With the vague guidelines, the GRI framework was developed with the aim of helping companies understand and communicate the right information regarding sustainability reporting. Previous research has studied how male-dominated industries present their gender equality work. However, studies have not focused on a female-dominated industry, nor the comparison between the industries. Hence, this study will be focusing on a total of six Swedish companies within a female-dominated industry and a male-dominated industry. Aim: The aim of this study is to contribute with knowledge of how Swedish companies report about gender equality in their annual and sustainability reports, in a male dominated industry and a female dominated industry. Furthermore, the study aims to identify the differences in the reporting of gender equality between the two industries. Method: The study's research strategy has been qualitative with a quantitative element. Data collection has been made with a content analysis of six companies annual and sustainability reports for the financial year 2021. Furthermore, has the data been analyzed with a code scheme and a code manual inspired by previous research. The code manual includes both quantitative and qualitative questions to enable an answer to the research questions. Results and conclusion: This study can show that differences in terms of equality reporting occur between the male-dominated industry and the female-dominated industry. Both industries are well aware of the uneven gender distribution within the industry. However, this study can state that the male-dominated industry has more initiatives to change the industry, while this cannot be identified within the female-dominated industry. Furthermore, can this study demonstrate that the female-dominated industry mentions equality earlier than the male-dominated industry and has a more even frequency of the concept of equality within the female-dominated industry.

There is nothing wrong with the Rights of Nature: They just need a supervisor : The impact of the implementation of Rights of Nature in Ecuador and the small-town Esperie.

Meshe, Marie January 2022 (has links)
The Rights of Nature is a relatively new approach to sustainable development, promoting that current environmental legislation is insufficient to protect Nature from human harm. The Rights of Nature movements emphases the importance of recognizing other living entities in our legal system. Ecuador was the first country in the world to incorporate the Rights of Nature into its Constitution in 2008. Based on semi-structured interviews, this study aims to investigate the awareness of the Rights of Nature among the inhabitants of the Equatorian small-town of Esperie and how they perceive and relate to the Rights of Nature in practice and whether the implementation has brought about any changes in their lives and community. The central findings of the study demonstrate that the majority of the respondents are aware of the Rights of Nature, also led to changes in society but also in respondents' lives and environment. The results also revealed various challenges that have arisen in the implementation of the Rights of Nature in practice and Due to stricter environmental laws and pressure from the people, the authorities have started to take measures to protect and respect Nature.

Delin, Jonna, Werner, Josefin January 2024 (has links)
This study examines factors influencing decision-making among Swedish university students from Generation Z when purchasing clothing, as well as the consequences this has on the consumption of second hand and fast fashion. The study also explores how environmental awareness affects these decisions. The study is based on a survey, in which the questions are based on Theory of Planned Behaviour and Value-Action Gap. The survey explores attitudes towards different choices and how participants act. The study also draws from available literature, consisting of scientific sources and reports. The results show that environmental awareness has a significant impact on consumer behaviour, and that price, availability, quality, size range, and sustainability are crucial when consumers make their decisions. The results were compared with several sub-goals of Sustainable Development Goal 12 from the UN's Agenda 2030, which are considered relevant to the study. The results also indicate that the general attitude towards fast fashion is negative, and the attitude towards second hand is generally positive. This looks promising for the future, and the results also suggest that greater awareness of environmental issues leads to more sustainable choices and consumption patterns.

Att sätta och implementera hållbarhetsmål. : En jämförelsestudie av hållbarhetsarbetet i stadsbyggnadsprojekten Norra Djurgårdsstaden och Stora Sköndal / Adopting and implementing sustainable development policies : A comparative study of the sustainability policies in the city development projects of Stockholm Royal Seaport and Stora Sköndal

BIrkehammar, Mattias January 2024 (has links)
Trots att NDS har något högre ambitioner tyder jämförelsen av de tillgängliga sammanställda resultaten på att Stora Sköndal verkar prestera bättre än Norra Djurgårdsstaden för vissa särskilda målområden som energianvändning och grönytor / Sustainable city planning is an ideal aiming at consideration to ecological and social as well as economic aspects so that development of today’s society won’t interfere with future generations’right to a decent life. In practical terms city planners have to reformulate the ideal to concrete targets and actions adapted to local conditions and available means. In Stockholm there are two ongoing city development projects with high sustainability ambitions; Stockholm Royal Seaport (Norra Djurgårdsstaden, NDS) and Stora Sköndal (SSK), both have as part of the sustainability work adopted so called sustainability goals and requirements tied to governing documents and processes to achieve these ambitions. The goal for this examination paper was to quantitatively and qualitatively compare the projects own goals, requirements and some other aspects of the sustainability efforts alongside with available results to ascertain what comparable elements there are, what project seems to have the higher ambitions and perform the best, and find aspects where the projects may improve. Notable conclusions are that the projects’ ecological goals overall are similar and comparable, while the social one’s aren’t as a consequence of both differing concepts of social sustainability and different organizations and processes. The improvement proposals address raising specific goals/targets as well as more general advice to expand the number standardized and measureable goals and requirements. Despite NDS having somewhat higher ambitions the first comparison of available results suggest that SSK manage to accomplish better results than NDS in key areas such as energy use and green spaces.

Värmland levande skogar : En jämförande fallstudie om hur kommunerna Sunne och Karlstad implementerar det svenska miljömålet Levande skogar i deras samhällsplanering. / Värmlands living forests : A comparative case study of how the municipalities Sunne and Karlstad implement the Swedish climate goal Living forests in their urban planning

Enqvist, Patricia January 2022 (has links)
Through Agenda 2030, Sweden developed 16 environmental goals. One of these environmental goals that are currently not reached is the Living Forests goal. Despite existing measures, the goal has continued negative development. To preserve the forest's biological and cultural values, strengthened measures and instruments are required. The municipal level is essential for implementing the environmental objective through community planning. The case study's intent is to develop a deeper understanding of how the municipalities of Sunne and Karlstad prioritize and value the forest in their urban planning. Conducting a comparative case study and analysing based on a synthetic top-down/bottom-up theoretical implementation model and reviewing similarities and differences between the detailed plans. The case study's questions follow:  • Are the political arguments regarding the environmental goal of living forests reflected through the implementation process in urban planning? • Is the work evident in the planning process in Sunne and Karlstad municipalities that strive to achieve the environmental goal of living forests?  • What priorities in urban planning are made in favour of the forest in Sunne and Karlstad municipalities? The results show that the implementation process in urban planning is influenced by the political arguments regarding the environmental goal of Living Forests. The cooperation between different levels within the implementation that involves organizations and actors, from the decision of a policy to the implementation at the local level, is essential for how it implements in community planning. The Living Forests policy is not addressed in any of the detailed plans, but several parts of both plans still touch on this policy area. There are several similarities and differences between the detailed planning documents in both municipalities regarding the work with topics connected to nature and forests. Sunne municipality has a clear priority to preserve the forest and its natural values. In Karlstad municipality, forestry measures are carried out to develop safety, experience, function, and well-being for people, animals, and vegetation in forests close to urban areas, according to the municipality.

En studie om konstruktörer kan minska klimatpåverkan av koldioxid från betong via kravspecifikation / A study about if construction designers can reduce the climate impact of carbon dioxide from concrete through specifications

Staffansson, Frida January 2019 (has links)
Purpose: The construction industry will be fundamentally impacted by sustainable development progression. The United Nations have set goals outlined in the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. To meet this desired progression, these goals must stand in focus for construction professionals and industry stakeholders. Concrete is a composite material made from aggregates, fluids and cement which hardens over time and is widely used in the construction industry. In 2014 it was estimated to account for more than five percent of all anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the climate impact of various concrete mixtures measured as carbon dioxide equivalents and use this to inform whether construction designers can make a difference through the specifications of concrete mixtures. Method: A literature review was conducted to ensure relevance of the study and establish a knowledge base regarding the subject. LCA and a document analysis of EPDs made it possible to compare climate impacts and data could be compiled. Findings: Data from LCA and document analysis indicates that construction designers can reduce the climate impact through their specifications by subscribing higher w/c ratios and lower exposure classes. This enable a bigger amount of the cement to be traded by additives. A literature study indicates that reducing the climate impact of concrete can directly be related to goal 13 in Agenda 2030. In Sweden, goal 13 is to reach no net emissions of greenhouse gases by 2045. Implications: If construction designers specify higher w/c ratio and lower exposure classes, they can reduce the climate impact from concrete. To specify higher w/c ratio and lower exposure class is not always possible depending on the structural requirements. The study adds to an understanding of the climate impact depending on concrete mixtures. Limitations: Concrete obtains many characteristics which is affected by multiple parameters. Limiting the study data and ignoring some parameters increases the risk of deceptive results. Publicly available concrete certifications and data from concrete professionals is combined in this study. Most of the concrete mixtures selected for analysis are climate friendly types and therefore the results would differ if regular concrete was used. Because of structural requirements and other conditions, it is not always possible for the construction designer to specify higher w/c ratio and lower exposure class. This study focuses on climate impacts which limits the possibility to make connections to multiple sustainable development goals.

Purpose: This research intends to investigate the contributions of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), as a federal public health research institution of national and international reference, for public policies aimed at reducing the risk of disasters in the context of climate change under Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. Methodology: The research used the analytical descriptive method with research and documentary analysis to investigate the benchmarks of global and national public policies for the four key concepts addressed in the theoretical framework: climate change, disaster risk reduction, health and climate and sustainable development; and also for the analysis of Agenda 2030, as a platform for public policies to reduce disaster risks, and Fiocruz's contribution to these policies. In addition, semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from two devices from Fiocruz, Climate and Health Observatory and CEPEDES, selected as the ones with the greatest institutional contribution to the issue of disasters in the context of climate change. Findings: It has been shown that Fiocruz contributes to public policies for national and local disaster risk reduction and that disaster risk reduction is part of Agenda 2030 and that this theme is transversal to the five Sustainable Development Objectives (ODS). In addition, it concluded that the Fiocruz Strategy for Agenda 2030 is still very incipient and that it should include in its actions the contributions of the Climate and Health Observatory and CEPEDES and, should work on health in the Agenda beyond ODS 3. Research limitations: The uncertainty of the ODS indicators worked on in the Brazilian Agenda 2030 are the definitive ones, as it is still in the process of internalization and has deepened the analysis of the contribution of Fiocruz to the policies of disaster risk reduction only for two institutional devices. Practical implications: The research structured the goals and indicators of Agenda 2030 related to disaster risk reduction and identified the need for improvement of some indicators and even the creation of new ones more effective for the appropriation of Agenda 2030 for public policies for disaster risk reduction. Social implications: The research confirmed the importance of the involvement of the health sector in addressing disaster risk reduction and presented its main impacts on human health. Originality: Relate the impacts of disasters and climate change on health with the Sustainable Development Objectives (ODS) of the Brazilian Agenda 2030.

The study also suggests an analytical model - based on qualitative research and documentary analysis – to define the study sample, investigate data, identify patterns, organise and codify a large amount of information within all reports searched. The analytical model represents a framework in which the result is a collection of practices being reported, functioning as a useful guide and practical reference for higher educational institutions – signatory or otherwise – when promoting or advancing transformational change in their business model. The framework could also be valuable for Graduate Schools – or even Primary Schools to High Schools – considering the urgency of the 2030 Agenda, especially its 4.7 target, referred to as 'An education for sustainable development and global citizenship'.
