語言與思維:英文與中文母語者在表情符號使用上的差異 / Does Language Shape Thought? English and Mandarin Speakers’ Usage of Emoticons as Non-Verbal Cues in Communication

有關表情符號的跨文化分析,現有之研究皆以亞洲國家(例如日本或韓國)和美國做比較。然而此間差異不僅包含文化上的,也包含語言使用上的不同。如此一來,在了解影響人們使用表情符號的因素時,文化背景與語言的因素混雜一體,難以區辨各別影響狀況。本研究試著控制文化的因素,將文化背景具有一定相似性,但官方語言不同的新加坡和台灣做比較。結果顯示新加坡與台灣使用者確實表現出不同的表情符號使用偏好。前者傾向使用橫式表情符號,後者則以使用直式表情符號居多。形式的不同也導致使用者在組合表情符號的眼型與口型時呈現明顯差異。此外,語言背景也會影響一個人對表情符號的認識與解讀能力。本研究發現,此現象在新加坡的受試者身上較為顯著,他們在認識與解讀台灣使用者的常用表情符號時較容易出現障礙。最後,本論文也討論了研究結果的意義以及研究者對於未來研究的建議。 / Existing literature on the cross-cultural use of emoticons often discuss how styles of emoticons vary by comparing countries such as Japan or Korea with the United States. However, these countries differ both in terms of their culture as well as the language used in the country. Thus, there remains a dilemma in distinguishing whether the effects of cultural background or language plays a greater role in determining the style of emoticons a person uses. This research explores this issue by comparing the use of emoticons between users from Singapore and Taiwan. Both countries have similar cultural background but differ in terms of their first language. By focusing on the difference of language and holding cultural background as a constant, results indicated that users from both countries do have a difference in preference for emoticons style. While the former predominantly use horizontal emoticons, the latter prefer vertical emoticons instead. Such difference has also resulted in different representation of the eyes and mouths of emoticons used by Singaporean and Taiwanese users. In addition, it has also been found that language background has an effect on a person’s ability to recognize and interpret emoticons used by natives from the other culture. This situation was more prominent among Singaporean participants as they were found to be less capable in recognizing and interpreting emoticons commonly used by their Taiwanese counterparts. The implications of these findings and recommendations for future research are discussed.

從BBS站廣告版閱聽人的質性分析來看對廣告效果研究的啟示

本研究從「網路上發表有關廣告論述文章」的現象出發,將BBS站廣告版網友的發言視為「閱聽人發表對廣告看法」的場所,分別運用不同的研究方法針對使用者、文本以及與BBS情境使用特性相關的三大方面加以歸類,並著重解釋使用者與文本、使用者與BBS、文本與BBS之間兩兩相互影響的現象。 研究發現,BBS站廣告版作為一個抒發意見的新媒體管道,它的內容是十分多元的,從文本環境來看,可以分成閱聽人意見的討論(包括詢問、感覺、心得、意見、批評等五種不同類型)與廣告本身(包括廣告演員、內容、現象、結構等分類的討論)以及學界概念、業界環境的討論等幾個重要的議題,同時,精華區的設置也提供了廣告版文章的歷史記錄和文章分類樣貌。本研究並提出《BBS廣告版的「閱聽人意見回饋」模式》來解釋BBS上廣告文本與閱聽人這樣的互動行為:當(when)受訪者 / 網友 / 閱聽人有廣告觀看經驗並有所想法,並有使用廣告版(接近性)的狀況下的的時候,他們就會發表對廣告的相關看法。在此條件下(under conditions),假如受訪者 / 網友 / 閱聽人與廣告有相當的關連性,那麼她們會對討論廣告有較為多元的想法,並且對自己意見發表的行為較為積極,這樣的意見回饋形式,呈現了閱聽人對於廣告多種想法的表達,有別於既有廣告批評或消費者研究將受訪者 / 網友 / 閱聽人視為缺乏主動性的研究立場,也劃分出另一個有別於傳統效果模式的意見回饋管道。

龍魂不滅—傳播儀式中的社群記憶

1999年,味全龍在三連霸後意外解散,徒留龍迷無限思念,時至今日,許多龍迷仍在各BBS站的龍隊討論板,尋找、分享過去曾有的記憶。只是隨著時空的變遷,與龍隊相關的消息大幅減少,儘管仍有前龍將在球場上征戰,但他們的今日表現也不再與龍隊直接相關。假使網路中的虛擬社群能夠成為龍迷記憶過往的處所,對龍迷而言,社群記憶的形塑過程為何?社群成員之間又存在著什麼樣的關係? 不同於過去虛擬社群之研究取徑集中於效果論、控制論的範疇,本論文試著從James Carey的傳播儀式觀點出發,從人類的固有行為,特別是儀式活動中,重新檢視社群記憶的產生與成員關係。研究對象為批踢踢實業坊(ptt)的Dragons板,研究分析之理論基礎包括了Maurice Halbwachs的集體記憶理論、Victor Turner的社會劇理論,以及Turner儀式研究的中介性與交融概念,研究方法為文本分析與深度訪談。 研究發現,奧運期間,針對徐生明爭議所引發的各個討論串內容,不僅彼此扣連,也互相影響著,使得討論串的主題發展,宛如社會劇中的情節更迭。在社會劇的修正行動中,龍迷則在討論串的字裡行間透露出對過去記憶的重組與召喚,目的時常是為了合理現狀、弭平對立與衝突。同時,由於社群管理者的管理態度與對自我職權的認識,讓參與者在取得社群身份,以及為文互動的過程裡,展現出類中介性的特徵,Dragons板也成為龍迷面對社會之不規律性與緊張時,自願而非義務結合的交融狀態。 從研究發現進一步延伸,「龍魂不滅」作為Dragons板的社群記憶,並非指成員之間的共同記憶,也絕非永恆不變。事實上,「龍魂不滅」應視為社群記憶形塑過程中的象徵性資源,此象徵不僅是儀式過程中成員行動的力量來源,象徵意義也可能在記憶重組與召喚的動態過程中,被賦予新的意義。另一方面,Dragons板所具有的類中介性,是龍迷遭逢危機與不安時的自發性結合;Dragons板所以能成為記憶社群,從儀式觀點,社群的參與宛如朝聖,社群的意義以及成員之間的關係,則是在選擇之後產生,也就是交融。

網路中的女性情誼-以台大椰林「站崗的女人」為例

網際網路發展之初,女性主義者批評網路是許於男性的新科技,女性被拒絕在這項新科技外,然而越來越多的女性網站相繼成立,各BBS站台也陸續有女性為主的版面出現,顯示女性逐漸在這項新科技中佔有一席之地。 女性在網路世界裡尋找到獨立的空間,在這個新的溝通空間裡,女性如何看待彼此?如何建立關係?少了男性意見的干擾,女性如何型塑溝通文化?專屬於女性的溝通文化呈現如何的特色?這些都是女性入主網路世界後,值得深入探討的問題。 本研究以台大椰林「站崗的女人」版面為研究場域,版上使用者的互動以及版面特殊文化,是探討網路人際關係以及網路科技現代意義的最佳題材。研究以深度訪談進行,探討版上的女性使用者如何看待「當兵」、如何調適「站崗」心情,同時探討在BBS的虛擬環境中,版上的女性使用者如何建立關係、培養親密情誼。 在文獻部分,首先探討電腦中介傳播中人際互動的可能性,接著整理愛情相關理論,探討在時間與空間的限制下,「站崗的女人」與當兵男友的愛情關係可能會面臨的狀況;最後探討女性與網路的關係,包括女性主義者對科技的批判、以及網路中的女性情誼。   研究結果發現,同理心、共同經驗、以及女性特質是「站崗的女人」版上使用者建立關係的重要基礎;而來自於版友的慰問與鼓勵、以及版上正面積極的文章,是站崗的女人最大的支持力量來源;站崗的女人與版友和男友之間的互動關係,也突顯出女性在站崗中的位置以及傳統價值觀下扮演的角色。

An XML-based Multidimensional Data Exchange Study / 以XML為基礎之多維度資料交換之研究

在全球化趨勢與Internet帶動速度競爭的影響下,現今的企業經常採取將旗下部門分散佈署於各地,或者和位於不同地區的公司進行合併結盟的策略,藉以提昇其競爭力與市場反應能力。由於地理位置分散的結果,這類企業當中通常存在著許多不同的資料倉儲系統;為了充分支援管理決策的需求,這些不同的資料倉儲當中的資料必須能夠進行交換與整合,因此需要有一套開放且獨立的資料交換標準,俾能經由Internet在不同的資料倉儲間交換多維度資料。然而目前所知的跨資料倉儲之資料交換解決方案多侷限於逐列資料轉換或是以純文字檔案格式進行資料轉移的方式,這些方式除缺乏效率外亦不夠系統化。在本篇研究中,將探討多維度資料交換的議題,並發展一個以XML為基礎的多維度資料交換模式。本研究並提出一個基於學名結構的方法,以此方法發展一套單一的標準交換格式,並促成分散各地的資料倉儲間形成多對多的系統化映對模式。以本研究所發展之多維度資料模式與XML資料模式間的轉換模式為基礎,並輔以本研究所提出之多維度中介資料管理功能,可形成在網路上通用且以XML為基礎的多維度資料交換過程,並能兼顧效率與品質。本研究並開發一套雛型系統,以XML為基礎來實作多維度資料交換,藉資證明此多維度資料交換模式之可行性,並顯示經由中介資料之輔助可促使多維度資料交換過程更加系統化且更富效率。 / Motivated by the globalization trend and Internet speed competition, enterprise nowadays often divides into many departments or organizations or even merges with other companies that located in different regions to bring up the competency and reaction ability. As a result, there are a number of data warehouse systems in a geographically-distributed enterprise. To meet the distributed decision-making requirements, the data in different data warehouses is addressed to enable data exchange and integration. Therefore, an open, vendor-independent, and efficient data exchange standard to transfer data between data warehouses over the Internet is an important issue. However, current solutions for cross-warehouse data exchange employ only approaches either based on records or transferring plain-text files, which are neither adequate nor efficient. In this research, issues on multidimensional data exchange are studied and an XML-based Multidimensional Data Exchange Model is developed. In addition, a generic-construct-based approach is proposed to enable many-to-many systematic mapping between distributed data warehouses, introducing a consistent and unique standard exchange format. Based on the transformation model we develop between multidimensional data model and XML data model, and enhanced by the multidimensional metadata management function proposed in this research, a general-purpose XML-based multidimensional data exchange process over web is facilitated efficiently and improved in quality. Moreover, we develop an XML-based prototype system to exchange multidimensional data, which shows that the proposed multidimensional data exchange model is feasible, and the multidimensional data exchange process is more systematic and efficient using metadata.

五大人格特質、工作價值觀和工作滿意三者相互關係之研究

人之性格與行為到底是由與生俱來的先天因素(nature)抑或環境行為等後天因素(nurture)決定呢?這方面的爭議是心理學家數十年來的興趣。然而,近十年中工業與組織心理學家才開始注意到,工作滿意與工作價值觀之氣質(disposition)源起與影響程度。本研究之目的,即在探討「五大人格特質」、「工作價值觀」、「工作滿意」三者間的關係。 本研究所使用的樣本乃為台灣之某一國營企業員工,有效樣本共568位。研究結果發現:五大人格特質與工作滿意是有所關係的,其中嚴謹自律性、外傾支配性、和善性分別對工作滿意具有預測力。五大人格特質對於內在滿意的影響則高於外在滿意;此外,研究者亦提出實徵數據佐證五大人格特質是可以有效地預測工作價值觀,解釋量約為45%;而且工作價值觀也會影響工作滿意且關係密切,與西方或是東方之台灣與韓國的研究相當一致。最重要的是本研究也發現工作價值觀(之工作目的性價值觀與工作手段價值觀均)為五大人格中之嚴謹自律性與內在滿意以及外向性與一般滿意之中介變項。此外,工作手段價值觀僅為五大人格中之和善性與一般滿意之中介變項。 綜合本研究結果與發現,研究者指出本研究之限制與未來研究方向,嘗試整合工作滿意之人格氣質緣起的架構並建立模式。以供工業與組織心理學家以及組織行為學者作為參考。 關鍵字:五大人格特質、工作價值觀、工作滿意、中介變項、氣質 / For decades, the debate over the issue of whether personalities and behaviors of human beings are determined by Nature or Nurture has been one of the major research interests of psychologists. However, it was not until the past ten years that industrial/organizational psychologists started to notice the dispositional sources of and their effects on job satisfaction and work values. In line with this trend, the present study aimed to investigate the relationships between the Five Factor Model of Personality (FFM, also known as the Big Five), work values, and job satisfaction. The study sampled 568 employees from one of the state-operated enterprises in Taiwan, and the Big Five was found to be related to job satisfaction, which could be predicted by Conscientiousness, Extraversion, and Agreeableness, respectively. The influence of the Big Five over intrinsic satisfaction was higher than that over extrinsic satisfaction. In addition, the researcher provided empirical data to substantiate the notion that the Big Five could predict work values effectively, accounting for 45% of the variance. The finding of a strong association between work values and job satisfaction was consistent not only with other research results obtained from eastern countries such as Taiwan and Korea, but also with those obtained in the West. Most important of all, terminal and instrumental work values were found to be the mediator between Conscientiousness and intrinsic satisfaction, as well as that between Extraversion and general satisfaction. However, only terminal work values served as the mediator between Agreeableness and general satisfaction. Summing up the results and discoveries of the present study, the limitations of it were pointed out, and directions for further investigation were suggested. Trying to construct a model by integrating the dispositional sources of job satisfaction and work values into a framework, the researcher wished to provide a footstone of future research for other industrial/organizational psychologists as well as organizational behaviorists. 近年來,大型資料庫的建制與分析逐漸成為一種教育研究趨勢,本研究即以PISA 2003資料庫為例,目的是建立影響數學成就的結構方程式模型。在評閱相關文獻後,研究者採用內在動機、工具性動機、數學焦慮、自我概念與數學成就等變項,探討之間的影響關係模型。此外,為使本研究所建立的模型具有模型穩定之證據,因此,將有效樣本隨機分割為建模樣本與驗證樣本,進行最終模型的交叉驗證。 據此,本研究首先使用描述性統計以瞭解香港學生的整體表現傾向,其次,透過探索性因素分析確立研究問卷的信效度,最後,以結構方程式模型建立模型並交叉驗證。資料蒐集對象為香港十五歲之在學學生,有效樣本達4,389位。 依據統計分析結果顯示,內在動機與工具性動機對數學成就沒有直接影響效果,但是內在動機與工具性動機透過數學焦慮及自我概念對數學成就產生間接影響,本研究歸納出七點結論茲分述如下: 1.工具性動機較內在動機更為強烈 2.數學焦慮在動機與數學成就間扮演中介變項之性質 3.自我概念在動機與數學成就間扮演中介角色 4.自我概念在數學焦慮與數學成就間扮演中介角色 5.在內在動機、工具性動機與數學焦慮中,工具性動機扮演負向壓抑變項角色 6.在內在動機、工具性動機與自我概念中,工具性動機扮演負向壓抑變項角色 最後,根據研究結果提出各項建議,以供教學實務上及未來研究參考。 / Recently, establishing and analyzing databases becomes a trend in the field of education research. This study took PISA 2003 database as an example to create a psychometric model of factors that influence mathematics achievement. Based on the literature review, the researcher decided to put influential factors, including intrinsic motivation, instrumental motivation, mathematics anxiety, self-concept, and mathematics achievement into the model. Afterwards, through cross-validation the present study had verified the model stability. In the aspect of statistic analysis, the descriptive static shows HK students’ general learning tendency. Moreover, the exploratory factor analysis confirmed the reliability and validity of the questionnaires. Lastly, the structural equation modeling(SEM) was used to set structural model. The valid samples were 4,389 15-year-old students. According to the results, intrinsic motivation and instrumental motivation had no direct effect on mathematics achievement and had indirect effect through mathematics anxiety and self-concept. The results were summarized as follows: 1.Students had more instrumental motivation than intrinsic one. 2.Mathematics anxiety was a mediator variable between motivations and mathematics achievement. 3.Self-concept was a mediator variable between intrinsic motivations and mathematics achievement. 4.Self-concept was a mediator variable between mathematics anxiety and mathematics achievement. 5.Instrumental motivation was a negative suppressor variable among intrinsic motivation, instrumental motivation, and mathematics anxiety. 6.Instrumental motivation was a negative suppressor variable among intrinsic motivation, instrumental motivation, and self-concept. Finally, according to the findings, implications and suggestions for teaching of mathematics and future research were discussed.

國中生數學自我概念、自我效能與成就關係之探討: 以PISA2003香港資料為例 / The Relationship among Self-Concept, Self-Efficacy, and Performance in Mathematics: The PISA 2003 Hong Kong Data

本研究目的,在利用PISA 2003資料庫為例,分辨數學自我概念、自我效能與數學成就關係之模式的建構。本研究選香港為研究對象,以參加PISA 2003的4402名香港的15歲學生為樣本來進行本研究。本研究運用探索性因素分析(EFA)檢視自我概念與自我效能之測量指標的信效度。分析結果顯示,「自我概念」與「自我效能」的測量模式的建構達良好的信效度。另一研究結果顯示,學生數學自我概念對數學成就之間沒有直接的影響效果,但會透過數學自我效能此中介變項,而產生對數學成就的間接影響效果。此外,在雙交叉驗證方面,顯示研究二組樣本具有交叉效度,研究模式之接受性均相當高。 / The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among self-concept, self-efficacy, and performance in mathematics. The PISA 2003 Hong Kong data was used as an example. There were 4402 15-year-old participants in this survey. Explore factor analysis was used to identify the good measurement models of self-concept and self-efficacy in PISA 2003. The results showed that the measurement models had high reliability and validity. The other result showed self concept had no direct effects on the mathematics achievement. But under the mediation of the mediator, such as self-efficacy, there was indirect effect on the mathematics achievement. Analysis also showed that the two sets of samples have presented cross validity, the research model is highly acceptable.
